De Jong not interested in Old Trafford move

The Frenkie de Jong move looks set to officially end after an ominous report says he has no interest in leaving Barcelona for Old Trafford. The Dutch midfielder was a star at Ajax under new manager Erik ten Hag. De Jong, 25, has piqued United’s attention since it became clear that he was Erik ten Hag’s first desire. De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for £86 million and has since completed almost 100 league appearances for the Catalan club. Still, with Manchester United out of the UEFA Champions League and Barcelona just turning things around over the last six months, it seems like De Jong needs some convincing that Old Trafford is the right place for him to take his game to the next level. Antony is aiming for a move to Manchester United this summer. However, Ajax is trying to deter interest in the Brazilian winger with their request to pay a PS 69m price tag to secure his signature. Under Ten Hag, De Jong was a standout on the Ajax team, advancing to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19, defeating Real Madrid & Juventus.

For the same reasons, Cristiano Ronaldo, who United are keen to keep, knows he needs to play in Europe’s most prestigious club football competitions to strengthen his position as one of the best attackers/ winger in the world. Other reasons include Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong does not want to live in and experience Manchester’s harsh climate, and he is more confident of his role and place with Barcelona under manager Xavi Hernandez, a man with whom he has an excellent professional relationship. Spanish outlet Sport Now claims De Jong‘s absolute priority is staying at Barcelona, and he has given a clear No to Manchester United. From United’s point of view, Frenkie de Jong wants Champions League football; he has no confidence that he will get a straight change at Old Trafford under his former manager Eric Ten Hag.

Here are some reasons why De Jong wants to stay in Barcelona. Despite lavish spending on footballers, particularly after Sir Alex Ferguson‘s retirement, the team has failed to sustain top standards. As a result, he fears that moving will result in a similar decline in his career. De Jong is dissatisfied with how conversations between Barcelona and United have been conducted behind his back. They believe he has not received anything official from United or their plans for him. De Jong just got engaged to his girlfriend Mikky Kiemeney, who adores Barcelona and has no plans to leave. The young pair has a large circle of acquaintances and is believed to be ‘very content’ where they are.
